God’s Will be Done

None of us know when the end of our earthly life will come and snatch us from this world. For some it comes as a thief in the night when least expected, for others, they have a little more warning it’s coming close. It is said by nurses and doctors tending to those dying that even the most hard-bitten atheists pray to God when the time comes. It is for this reason God gives us to our very last breath to repent and be saved.

Having witnessed death myself of most of my family and many friends over the last few years, and having been close to it myself this February, it makes one realise how fragile, how short life actually is. How the time and means of our end, if not by one’s own hand, is not in our hands, but in the hands of another.

Being face to face with severe illness or death makes one realise just how small we are, how ineffectual when it comes to such matters. How nothing is really of our making when it comes to health matters, life and death.

It doesn’t matter how much or how little money one has; what important position they do or do not hold; how famous or just an ordinary soul like me walking through life trying to do as best we can. We all have one thing in common, money position or status means nothing when our time in this world comes to its end.

It is no good thinking we all have plenty of time to repent, say sorry to others or to God for deeds done, or even thoughts that are not as God would wish of us. What if we run out of time before we have a chance to say we’re sorry or repent? What then?

It’s no good thinking our innermost thoughts would have been known, why would they? Even if God knows our innermost thoughts, it’s no good expecting forgiveness if we haven’t voiced our repentance to God, meant it sincerely with all our heart, or made a supreme effort to change while we have the chance.

Whatever is God’s will be done, but let us all accept what is His will with strength, grace and thanks, for He knows the greater picture and the reasons why when we don’t. We just need to trust in Him, have faith, but most of all, repent while we still have time for who knows when our own time will come?
