Greed is an ugly thing at any time, but never more so than when aimed against a person who is sick. Anger, lies, coercion and outright bullying in order to gain a larger inheritance is the ugliest thing to sit back and have to watch.
I am part of a group where the most horrendous things are shared by people who are suffering an illness they struggle to accept and come to terms with. This disease is one that shows what their family is made of and more to the point, what their priorities are.
You know I often say words are cheap and actions are what speak loudest. Well, never has this been seen as so true for these poor souls. The horror stories of greed of their children while ignoring and neglecting their actual care is astounding.
No words or care is heard or seen about keeping their alleged loved one at peace and calm, only greed of what they are to gain from them, how and when. Their lives are written off as already over, as the vultures close in to stake their claim on what they see as their due.
For a sick person to be abused by those who are meant to be closest to them (for it is abuse), while knowing their abuse is making their parent more ill and upset, is something that only the most wicked of people would do. People with darkness in their hearts and a lust for money that has far removed them from the normal behaviour of decent human beings.
Greed is one of the Seven Deadly Sins and mentioned in the bible “Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more” (Ephesians 4:19).
As you can see in the above words, those consumed with lust for money lose all sense of decency and sensitivity. They will lie, deceive, abuse and do anything to achieve their end goal. Their hunger is so great, they lose all sense of anything moral. Compassion or love are words they fail to recognise.
Who they hurt in the process matters nothing to them at all. The only thing they concern themselves with is the end result of gaining more and more. Money is their only God; money and all it brings them. What they fail to recognise is that nothing good will ever come of money gained through such badness,
We know this to be true, because God tells us nothing good will ever be gained by money come by in such ways. To bully a parent who is ill and meant to avoid stress is bad enough. To do it in order to try to gain from an enlarged inheritance at the expense of hastening a decline in their health takes it to a whole new level.
God will rebuke them of that there is no doubt. One day they will have to answer to Him for such badness and the fruits of such labour will never bring them peace in their hearts. They would do well to read their bible and know that one day, they will have to answer for their deeds.
To all those poor parents out there who suffer at the hands of such cruelty by their children be assured, how they now hurt you is nothing to what God will do to them when their time comes.
‘Cursed is he who dishonours his father or mother.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’ Deuteronomy 27:16
For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy. Timothy 3:2
For son treats father contemptuously, Daughter rises up against her mother, Daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; A man’s enemies are the men of his own household. Micah 7:6
